DMF Local 5 President George Troia: “Diane has been a strong advocate for working class musicians.”
Sterling Heights, MI — Today, Democratic candidate for Michigan’s 10th Congressional District Diane Young announced that she received the endorsement of the Detroit Federation of Musicians: American Federation of Musicians Local 5. The Detroit Federation of Musicians joins OPEIU Local 40 in the growing labor movement behind Diane. This endorsement builds on the growing momentum behind Young’s campaign, which has been the only campaign to announce dozens of key endorsements from local leaders such as State Senators Mallory McMorrow and Rosemary Bayer and has been featured in the Detroit News and Macomb Daily.
“We are excited to endorse Diane because of her commitment to supporting working class musicians and our communities” said George Troia, Jr., President of DFM: AFM Local 5. “Diane shares our concerns about the future of musical performances and she is going to be a strong ally in Congress for all musicians seeking dignified work, fair wages, and fighting exploitative forces.”
“I’m proud to fight alongside the Detroit Federation of Musicians in their efforts to make sure music continues to be played by musicians in our plays, theaters, and everywhere in between” said Diane Young. “Our campaign is committed to fighting alongside working class musicians against exploitative forces that seek to underpay, replace, and break up our musical communities.”
The daughter of a secretary and a union carpenter, Diane Young grew up in Romeo where she was raised to work hard and always help others. Diane worked her way through school and became a financial planner. For over thirty years Diane has helped Michigan families like hers achieve their dreams. The business she started with a folding table and a phonebook has now helped hundreds of Michiganders buy homes, save for college, and plan for the future; as well as advise scores of small businesses on their growth and success. Diane now lives in Warren with her husband, in a family of proud union members. She still finds ways both big and small to help out our community.
